Capture the Food

Collect scrumptious food with a custom controller in this fast-paced, 1D game.

Inspired by a busy family buffet, Capture the Food is a 2-player game where hungry users compete to collect food as much food as possible. Player’s utilize a controller whose shape and function replicate a pepper grinder. It utilizes an Arduino & C++ for computational power, a rotary encoder for movement, and a tactile switch for attacker deployment. The board, coded predominantly in JavaScript, is shaped like a dining table.

This game originated from an individual project in MIT’s Design Studio: Advanced Interactions (4.044). In the class, I was tasked to design a game and corresponding controller. There was one design constraint: the game must be playable in a 1D realm. For example, all gameplay and instructions must be represented and played on a single LED strip.
